Design Wall Monday - November 10, 2014

Awhile ago  I got out a Timeless Treasures, I recently decided to do something with it.  I love how all the motifs are etched in gold.

This is what the panel looked like.

With some simple piecing adding borders and decorating with some crystals I ended up with three wall hangings from this one panel.

I like the way they turned out and think they will sell easily at my craft shows.

Other than trying to finish up craft show items I have been working hard at staying on track with Weight Watchers (down 26 pounds) and several trips back and forth to the eye specialist.  Tomorrow is another appointment, hoping this will be the last one.

Robert Kaufman Half Jelly Rolls

Ordered two types of Robert Kaufman half jelly rolls (20 strips) and they have been received and are posted on etsy.

The first on is called Spot On and is polka dots in pinks and purples from pin dot size all the way up to dots about 5/8 of an inch wide.   What a cute addition to a little girls quilt.

The second half jelly roll was designed by Valori Wells and is a rainbow of colors.

These are the perfect size roll to use for sashings, inner borders, strippy quilts or those smaller projects like handbags or placemats or if you really love them buy two and make a whole quilt.

Timeless Treasures Pinecones and Poinsettias

Love this panel I now have in.   Timeless Treasures makes their panels look elegant by etching them in gold.

I think this would look pretty with just a border added for a nice wall hanging but I can also picture it cut apart and the larger blocks being used for holiday pillows or smaller wall hangings and the small squares being incorporated into table runners or made into mug rugs.

What other ideas can you come up with?   Be sure and click on the picture to see a larger version.

Starry Night 2 Christmas Panel

After Northcott's success last year with the Christmas Tree Starry Night panels they decided to make a second line for this year with beautiful wreaths.  They do come in three colors, blue, red and green but I selected the red (Cranberry) one to purchase a bolt of.

If you didn't see the tree panels last year, many people quilted them and then put twinkle lights through button holes they had made in the wall hanging.  Very pretty and different.  Others quilted and used as is or my favorite added hot fix crystals to it.   Any of those options can also be done with this panel.  If I was making it I think I would cut the large snowflakes off top and bottom and make it more of a square wall hanging and then use larger snowflakes in a future project, maybe a table runner to match.

I also have a coordinating cranberry fabric for backing, binding or whatever.

Stonehenge Celebration

UPS delivered these pretty Stonehenge Celebration patriotic panels by Northcott today.  It would make a great wall hanging for any of the upcoming holidays or use as the center of a patriotic quilt and add borders until you get it the size you want.

Quilting Classes or a Retreat Right On the Water?

One of the wonderful quilters in our area, Joyce McComas, is now doing quilting classes in her home with several piecing and paper piecing classes scheduled over the next few months.

She is also planning a quilting retreat at Cove Point Lighthouse, Solomons, MD for Sunday June 22 through Wednesday June 25th.  The house sleeps up to 16 people and the price includes lodging, quilting class and and all your food and I understand Joyce is a wonderful cook.

If you are interested in classes or the retreat please contact Joyce at jjmccomas@hotmail.com and she can forward you the information.

Light Batiks

I got in two sets of these light batik strips.  They are in creams, almond and off whites.  Perfect for those patterns that require a light and also a dark or print jelly roll.

BATIKS

Received some batiks this week from a new supplier.  They had an assortment pack of 9 different fabrics, six yards each and decided it sounded interesting.

I was a little disappointed that all of them where not six yard cuts.  Some colors were in 3 yard pieces and a couple more in a 2/4 yard ratio.  I still like the colors and feel of these.  The backs are a couple of shades lighter than the front so I think people that applique would like two shades of the same color in one piece of fabric.

We have placed two bundles of these batiks on etsy and have the rest of the yardage available.

My favorites are the yellow the gray (center that looks more blue gray in this picture) and the green  on the far right.  It actually is a green/brown blend that reminds me of camo and would be great in a guys hunting or fishing quilt.  I guess I like it because it is so different.

Undersea Adventures

This Northcott bolt just in is part of the Undersea Adventures line.  It would be a great addition to the Undersea panel, a bright addition to any quilt or a fun backing.

Mikado by Northcott

Two more bolts of fabric in, these are from the Mikado line by Northcott.  With the gold in these I think they would make wonderful blenders or a nice backing for a quilt.

These are available through our etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/oldetownestitchery or for local pickup.

More Blenders

I had sold out very quickly the Royal Blue Toscana (suede looking fabric from Northcott) so reordered that color and also a nice black and a pretty red.    The lighting was a little weird when taking this, the black doesn't have anywhere near the variation in color that this looks like and the red is a true red and the blue is darker.  Should have retaken the picture but you can get the idea..

Blenders are one of those things that are not real exciting to order or to buy but we always need them.  I tend to buy floral fabrics, theme prints etc. and then later wonder what to use with them and having several blenders always makes things easier.

Two Bright Blenders

I recently received a card from Timeless Treasures showing a line of bright blenders they have called Dream.  Since I was totally out of both a nice lime green and bright yellow blender I decided to try them out.

I received both of these last night.  If they sell well I will be glad to order other colors.

You can't really tell from the picture but they have all over tone on tone dots.  Very nice and just adds texture over a solid.  I don't know about you but I rarely use a solid fabric unless it is white or black.

Another Arrival

Just arrived today is this panel, it is called Tiffany and is by Timeless Treasures.  Bright crisp colors and all motifs outlined in gold.  I am definitely going to grab one of these for myself.  I think if I had an office I would put this on the wall and pretend that it was a window but since my office is my house I think I will try and figure out a couple of borders for it and make a wall hanging for our entry way.

I have a quilt hanger called Hang it Dang it and love it.  Hangs with one nail and telescopes to different sizes so I can change my wall hangings with the seasons (if I get time to make them that is) and never put another hole in the wall.

Layer Cake Arrivals

Another arrival, this time it is layer cakes from Moda. A really nice grouping of aqua, green, yellow and peach fabrics by Sandy Gervais for Moda. The layer cakes are called Chance of Flowers and here is a picture of the front of the layer cakes and also a shot of some of the other fabrics in the grouping. Makes me think that just maybe spring is around the corner.

Undersea Adventures

Undersea Adventures - I had the Northcott Stonehenge Undersea Adventures panel and fabric at the shop last year and it quickly sold out.  Since Northcott is going to discontinue production of these I went ahead and got another bolt of the panels and one of the main "go with" fabric.  If you missed out on this last year or just need more of the fabric now is the time to get it.  If you are interested in either of these email me at oldetownestitchery@gmail.com for questions or ordering or check out our etsy site.

New Arrivals

Woke to a box from Timeless Treasures on our front porch.  There is a cute kids panel

and my favorite a beautiful bolt of fabric in blue and turquoise with lots of gold running through it.  In my opinion this is one of the prettiest fabrics I have ever received but these are colors I love and a little gold or bling I always gravitate towards.

New Fabric Arrivals

Finally have everything left from the shop situated at the house, holidays are over and a bad bough of bronchitis is behind me so I have started to order a few bolts of fabric.

I am not going to order much at first, will need to see how much I sell locally and how much we sell on etsy to see if it is worthwhile continuing to order.

My first deliveries are these two bolts of Toscano by Northcott.   Toscano is taking the place of the discounted Freckles blender line.  I do like the look of these, up close they have the look of suede.

White is always a necessity and I also loved the look of the Royal Blue.  I am sure I will be eventually ordering these in other colors.

In addition I received two bolts of kids fabrics.  The yellow star fabric is from Northcott and the Green Play Time bears are by Timeless Treasures.

We have not put much yardage on line but if you are interested in notions, thread, a few pre-cuts or books check out our etsy store at www.etsy.com/shop/oldetownestitchery
