Another Show and Tell

Mary Ellen stopped by today and showed us the folded star hot pad she made in class a couple of weeks ago and the second one that she is just about finished with.  Didn't she do a great job on the color combinations???

So fun to see completed projects from various classes.

Featherweight for Sale

Ed worked on this featherweight and it will be for sale later this week.  I took it to the shop and have been sewing on it a little bit every day to make sure everything is working correctly.  A lot better way to test it out than to just sew on it for a couple of minutes.

It will be priced at $295.00.

Upcoming Events

I can hardly believe that it is practically July!!!

I will be sending out an email next week but wanted to let you know about some of the upcoming happenings at the shop next week.

We were going to be closed on the 4th of July but decided to open but for reduced hours.  We will be open on the 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. so stop by and see us.

In addition, next week will be Leonardtowns First Friday activities with a band on the square and lots of activities and specials going on all over town.

At Olde Towne Stitchery we will be providing a demo on string quilting using deli papers as a foundation.  We have loads of red/white and blue strips cut and ready to go.  We ask that if you have time you sit down for a few minutes and sew one or more of the blocks.  All these patriotic blocks will be pieced into a quilt and ultimately donated to the Charlotte Hall Veteran's home.

Demo/block sewing hours will be noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6th.  Hope to see you there.

Hobo Class

Four ladies took the Hobo bag class yesterday, which made for a lively day at the shop.  Here is Cindy helping Sherry figure out the next step in the process.

This class will be taught several more times this summer so check out the class sample next time you are in the shop.

Featherweights Coming Soon

Ed has been gathering up Some of the popular Singer Featherweights with the idea of establishing a Featherweight page on the Olde Towne Stitchery website. He plans to showcase complete machines, accessories, new and used parts and other Featherweight related items that will be available for sale at the shop. Several arrived when he was on travel and still need to be cleaned and tested, so if you are interested in one, check the website regularly to learn when they become available.

He has also been trying to locate some Singer 301s for those quilters who prefer the larger bed but so far, they have all been too expensive.

Show and Tell

All of us at the shop love it when people bring their projects back in to show us.  We had four ladies take a yellow brick road class this last saturday and Flo brought her finished top in to show us.  This was made with Benetex fabrics the soft blue colors remind me of old stonewashed jeans.

Thanks for showing us Flo, you did a great job on the quilt.

New Fabrics

Here are some of the newest arrivals in fabric.  We now have Moda Halloween fabrics including jelly rolls and layer cakes.

These are fun kids prints by Blank.  I love the dragon and have named him Puff as in Puff the Magic Dragon from the old song and cartoon.  I really am dating myself!.

Convergence

Another great class for summer is this little wall hanging made using Ricky Timm's convergence book.  The center of the wall hanging requires only 4 FQs.  I made this same quilt a few months ago using 4 different batik fabrics and then I fused a black cat to it, I loved the results.  I have seen other examples where people have added butterflies, flowers or other motifs.  If you decide to leave this plain or add embellishments I think you will be happy with your results.

Some new RJR fabrics came in last night after I left the shop so will be interesting to go in this morning and see what arrived!!

Breezy Weave

Another new class being offered this summer is the Breezy Weave bag, I just love the fabrics that Barbara used in this class sample.

Purple has always been my favorite color!!

News from the shop is that we have installed some additional bookcases in the back office area and are now converting that to hold more fabrics and supplies.  Discounted fabrics have moved to this back room with some additional bolts just added to the discount shelves.  Look for a yellow, pink or green dot on the top of these bolts to indicate a 25%, 40% or 50% discount.

Spiral Class

One of the new classes we are going to be offering this summer is the Spicy Spiral class.  I have seen this runner made up in many fabric combinations and loved every one of them.  I was scheduled to take this workshop until some medical issues came up in April so I hope to be able to sit in on one of these classes myself.

If you are interested in the class check out our complete listing of classes on our website www.oldetownestitchery.com  for the dates and times being offered.

Have a wonderful week and hope you have some time to sew.

Quilt Shop Blog

I used to blog a lot about my personal quilting and sewing projects, customer quilts and sometimes just life in general.  Well life suddenly got very busy when we purchased the Olde Towne Stitchery fabric and quilt shop in Leonardtown, Maryland on April 27th and reopened for business on May 1st.  After that there was not enough time in the day to keep up on my own blogging.

Now that things are settled down a slight bit I thought starting a blog for the shop would be a great idea.  We can share information on new fabrics, patterns and notions arriving at the shop.  Information on upcoming classes, specials, tips and techniques or anything else we can think of that might be of interest.

I would love to have people that take a class send me a picture of their finished project and we can also show some of those here.

A few days ago we finalized our summer class listing and everything, including pictures of lots of the class projects, are available on our website at www.oldetownestitchery.com .  I think there is something there for everyone that might want to take a class from bags, to quilts, to table runners to a case for your kindle or nook.   Time permitting I hope to sit in on a few of these classes myself.
